How N Style paints an exterior
- You walk the house with the foreman so everyone agrees on the job.
- Windows and doors get masked. Plants are wrapped and concrete is covered so nothing gets overspray.
- Wood is scraped, sanded and cleaned, then primed with a flexible (elastomeric) primer: the fascia boards under the roof edge, siding, window trim, and the trim band between floors.
- The joint where the walls meet the eaves is caulked all the way around the house.
- The body gets painted. Stucco is sprayed and back-rolled so the paint gets into the texture. Smooth siding is sprayed without back-rolling, which would leave a roller stipple.
- Trim is brushed and rolled by hand. The front door is done last.
- The foreman or project manager walks the house with you again, and the crew hauls off every bit of trash.

Rotted wood gets fixed first
N Style replaces dry rot and termite-damaged wood before painting, so the new paint isn’t sitting on soft boards. More on that: dry rot repair before painting.
Help picking colors
“Nick and his N Style crew did a marvelous job painting the exterior of our 1960 home. What separates Nick from other painters is his knowledge of paint and paint colors. He helped us to select the right color combinations to achieve the look we wanted.”
“We had a great experience with N Style Painting. Even more impressive, I called them 2 years later because I had forgotten the paint color and needed some for touch ups and they were so helpful!”
What it costs
This Old House’s 2026 guide puts exterior painting at about $2.20 to $4.40 a square foot, or $4,400 to $8,800 for a 2,000 square foot house. Sizes, stucco prices and what pushes a quote up are on the Sacramento painting cost page.
